How To Measure Pupillary Distance

P.D. is the distance between the two pupils (Centre of the eyes)

P.D is required to process the lenses so that we can align the centre of the lenses with the centre of your eyes for optimum vision. You may ask your optician for the PD measurement at the time of your eye test or you may do it by yourself with the help of your friend

To measure PD:

You will need to wear your glasses while measuring the PD and for progressive lenses you will need to follow addition steps so that we can make perfect glasses.

You will need a ruler, removable marker pen, eyeglasses and torch light (if pupil not visible)

Please follow the steps below to measure the PD:

1.                   Ask your friend to stand at a distance of his arm.
2.                   Place the ruler over the frame so that the scale covers half of the cornea and placed just above the darkest spot of the eye (If the pupil is not visible you can use a torch light)
3.                   To measure the PD of the left eye. Look at the right eye of your friend and ask him to mark a dot on the lenses where the centre of the eye is placed (the darkest spot)
4.                   To measure the Pd of the right eye. Look at the left eye of your friend and ask him to mark a dot on the lenses where the centre of the eye is placed (the darkest spot)
5.                   Now look straight at the nose tip of your friend and ask your friend to confirm if the dots are placed at the center of the eyes. If the dots don’t match follow the step 3 and 4 once again. If the readings are same then the measurement is correct.
6.                   Keep the printed ruler at the centre of the frame so that the zero is at the centre of the bridge.
7.                   Take the reading of the left eye and then the right eye.
8.                   Here is your monocular.

1.                   Cut the measuring ruler along the dotted line.
2.                   Place the curve at the bridge of the nose so that 0 is the center of the bridge.
3.                   Mark a dot on the ruler where the centre of the eyes falls for the left side and then follow the same step for the right eye
4.                   Measure the distance from the center of the ruler for both eyes and you would get a monocular PD.

If you are placing an order for progressive lenses please follow the additional steps listed below so that we can process the order accurately:

1.                   Do not remove the dots on the lenses.  You will need to take additional reading of the lenses.
2.                   Measure the total height of the lenses and note the reading.
3.                   Now measure the height of the dot from the bottom of the lenses.
4.                   Please enter this information on the order from.
