Different Lens Material for Prescription Glasses and its Use:

Hi Index LensesPrescription eyeglasses lenses material that has come a long way use to be just made of mineral glasses. With technological development different types of lens material and design are available which enables people suffering from vision disorder to have a clear vision. Earlier the only lens material available was mineral glasses lenses which are heavier and fragile though these lenses are scratch resistant. Due to its fragile nature the frames that were available were also limited which included bulky plastic frames or metal full frames.
With advancement of technology new lens material were introduced like plastic, Polycarbonate and Hi-index lenses. Among these lenses plastic lenses are the most popular as these lenses are lighter as compared to glass and cost effective. To add to its benefits these lenses are tintable and can be used as prescription sunglasses thus you can enjoy sun protection along with clear vision.

The other popular lenses that are been used are polycarbonate lenses. Polycarbonate lenses are lighter, thinner and impact resistant as compared to plastic lenses. Due to its impact resistant nature these lenses are highly recommended for children and with rimless frames.

Hi-index aspheric lenses are the most advance form of lenses available and these lenses are the thinnest of all and are lighter. These lenses are recommended if your prescription is high and are available in three different indexes 1.6, 1.67 and 1.74. Due to its thinness nature theses lenses offer great cosmetic benefits as the high prescription lenses will not look like a coke bottle.

We recommend that you add anti-scratch coating on lenses for plastic, polycarbonate and hi-index lenses as these lenses are more prone of getting scratches. With anti-scratch coating the life of the lenses will definitely be increased and it will also offer 100% UV protection. To add to its benefits it is recommended that you apply anti-reflective coating on the lenses as these coating will offer great cosmetic look as well as it will allow 100% light to transmit through the lenses.

  8. The doctor has been telling me for a while that I need to be wearing glasses, but it's so hard to find a frame that I like and that's comfortable on me. I've considered wearing contacts but I hear those can be irritating. Overall, I feel like I'm seeing just fine for now, but who knows how much longer I'll be able to go without glasses. http://www.johnmountfordoptometrist.com.au/services.html
